Workshop Report: How We Create Our Sustainability Report
Exploring Our Sustainability Journey at Shibuya Hikarie
Recently, our Brand Director, Mr. Kubota, hosted a talk and workshop at Shibuya Hikarie, focusing on our annual Sustainability Report.
It was a meaningful opportunity to share how our brand began its sustainability efforts, how those efforts have evolved, and where we are headed—guided by our vision:“Make the World Smile for Peace.”
The Path to Sustainability at Pizza 4P’s
In the talk session, Kubota shared honestly that, when Pizza 4P’s first opened, we didn’t give much thought to sustainability—we even used disposable paper placemats similar to fast-food chains. When we first evaluated our operations using sustainability criteria, our score was around 40 out of 100.
Realizing the need for change, we began small steps—such as whey recycling in collaboration with arugula farmers in Vietnam, and the development of an original craft beer. Over time, our efforts expanded to include biodegradable bags, a glass jar return project, and more.
A major turning point came with the launch of our zero-waste restaurant in Cambodia, designed from the ground up around our concept:”Oneness – Compassion through Zero Waste.”
In contrast to our Vietnam operations, where integrating zero-waste practices into existing systems proved difficult, Cambodia gave us the opportunity to embed waste separation, dedicated staff, and sustainability systems from the very beginning.
This success laid the groundwork for us to expand our zero-waste model to stores in Vietnam as well.
How We Create Our Sustainability Report
Our progress in sustainability is compiled into a report each year.
The process begins with setting the agenda collaboratively between our sustainability manager and Kubota, then collecting data from each department in each contries. For example, in our zero-waste restaurant, a dedicated staff member weighs and records all waste daily—ensuring our reporting is grounded in real, on-the-ground data.
Our Sustainability Report 2024 has just been completed and you can see it online.
Workshop: “What Sustainability Means to You”
The workshop invited participants to reflect on sustainability from a personal and professional perspective.
Each attendee selected three topics they felt were most important—both individually and within their workplace—from a list that included climate change, biodiversity, zero waste, workplace well-being, and more. These choices and the reasons behind them were then shared in small groups.
The Future of Sustainability at Pizza 4P’s
Kubota shared a key goal: “Nurturing conscious customers.”
Through accessible products like our frozen pizzas, we hope to reach a broader audience—inviting them into the 4P’s experience, leading them to visit our restaurants or join our sustainability tours.
We believe this can gradually build a more sustainability-conscious community, one person at a time.
Internally, we also aim to grow a team where more members take ownership of our sustainability initiatives—not just from top-down direction, but driven by personal passion and commitment.
Pizza 4P’s will continue to explore ways to create food experiences that go beyond “delicious,” and connect deeply with people and the planet.
Thank you to everyone who joined the workshop—we hope to see you again at our future events!
