Two cocktails. One idea.
Indonesia has always lived between land and sea, and these two drinks are built around that tension.
Ocean starts with Balinese Arak, gets a sharp lift from grapefruit and settles into vermouth infused with seaweed. A strip of real seaweed floats on top – not for show, but because it changes the smell and the feel of every sip. Saline, coastal, alive.
Earth goes the other way. SABA vodka from Bali brings a gentle heat, Campari adds soft bitterness and a little sweetness, and it’s served in ceramic – so the weight and texture of the glass become part of the experience. Grounded. Quiet. Stays with you.
Two different drinks, same origin.
We made them with Soran Nomura (@soran_nomura) — bartender and owner of Nomura Shoten (@nomura_shoten_tokyo) and Quarter Room (@quarter_room_tokyo) in Tokyo – someone who thinks about what ingredients can become, not just what they are.
